characters and scenes
thanks to the 4-5 class for helping me sort through this. i apologize that i haven't kept both classes up to date on the same things. while this will mostly likely change, to get everyone on the same page i'm posting what i am now thinking of for a character list and basic descriptions of scenes.
this is more of an organization thing for me now than it is the actual play, but it should be good for us to begin to think about specific people in specific circumstances. Please feel free to start your own posts with ideas/concerns/comments on any of the below (sleepovers for example, thanks Hope). Also, please give me ideas you have about characters... like Katy said, it's the odd little things that make them real.
So...
Characters:
Rainboy (real name Mikey Peterson)-- sophomore
Sam Peterson (Rainboy's older brother, dating Noelle)-- senior
Poet (real name Meagan, lives two doors down from the Petersons)-- freshman or sophomore (to be determined)
Gretchen (Noelle's younger sister)-- sophomore
Noelle (Gretchen's older sister, dating Sam) -- junior or senior
Justin -- (Sam's best friend, Lisa's older brother) -- senior
Lisa (Justin's younger sister, host of the sleepover) -- sophomore
Maggie (at sleepover, doesn't live in neighborhood)-- sophomore
Clare (at sleepover, doesn't live in neighborhood)-- sophomore
Sophie (at sleepover, doesn't live in neighborhood)-- sophomore
Abby (at sleepover, doesn't live in neighborhood)-- sophomore
-- possibly one more guy that doesn't live in the neighborhood
Scenes:
1. -- Rainboy and Poet in the park (Raindrop)
-- Justin and Sam hanging out (on a sectional couch with no $ for pizza)
-- Noelle dyeing Gretchen's hair (plum purple, thoughts on being aethiest)
2. -- Rainboy and Poet in the park (The Half Book)
-- sleepover scene(they see Poet out the window, Justin makes an appearance)
-- Justin and Gretchen. (Justin almost hits Gretchen with his car)
3. -- Rainboy and Poet in the park (Tunnel, Gretchen sees them in the park)
-- Noelle and Sam at Sam's house (Rainboy comes home during this)
-- Sleepover girls venture out into the rain (and the park)
-- Justin and Gretchen in the 7-11 parking lot (Sam meets them there)
4. -- Rainboy and Poet at Poet's window (Poet finally reads him a poem, truth about his bottle of tylenol)
-- Justin and Gretchen go to the park. (Sleepover girls are still there.)
-- Sam and Noelle go to the park. (They've made up.)
-- Rainboy and Poet go to the park (Wow. Everyone is there. There is a red umbrella, bare feet, a book of poetry, dancing, splashing, swinging, yelling, singing, kissing, and that smell of rain when it's actually raining.)

6 Comments:
I like how Rainboy has a twin. That could work out to be interesting...... I'd kind of be interested in figuring out what type of relationship they have and their "clique" similarities (if any).
Also, it might be interesting for Noelle to be a junior. I know some people who have had issues with the prospect of one going away to college while the other stays behind. Just differences in their age could be something that could help establish a more interesting relationship between them in general.
wait, rainboy has a twin??? this is news to me... especially since i just finished writing a play about twins... but maybe.
i think noelle could be a jr. good point.
i also haven't decided about poet yet. since she's new to town, she really could be any age and still sort of feel like a freshman in the sense that she doesn't know anyone and is on the outside of things. but then i do like the idea of her being extra wise for her age. what do you all think?
In response to the twin thing (I may be getting this wrong), this is how I interpreted the Peterson (Rainboy's) family (or at least the children):
Sam Peterson (Oldest, Senior)
Mikey Peterson (Twin, Sophomore)
Lisa Peterson (Twin, Sophomore)
I saw the Lisa/Mikey twin thing when you said that Lisa is Sam's younger sister. Did I miss something?
I agree hope. It would be cool to see her as a freshman.
Also, it says "Lisa (Sam's younger sister, host of the sleepover) -- sophomore". Not "Justin's younger sister".
sorry. it was a typo. lisa is justin's younger sister. rainboy and sam are brothers.
Oh. OOOOOH!!!! Oops, boy do I feel stupid. I bet I'm the only one who didn't get that.
Haha, oops.
