improv class reminder
Thanks for all of you who have logged on and posted comments. Great thoughts so far.
Just a reminder that this Thursday we won't have regular class (the trouping show performs for you from 4-5pm). Please bring your journals then so that I can collect them and read them over your spring break.
Remember that I want you to start thinking about journaling in first-person, 3-5 minute segments that will eventually be for your own monologues.
Please try at least one of these in your journals by this Thursday. Think of it as improv-ing with a pen -- just write what comes out and don't take your pen from the page.
The writing prompts I gave out in class were:
- start with: If I were a raindrop...
- answer: Have you ever wished you didn't exist?
- start with: The smell of rain...
- finish: If i was with my boyfriend/girlfriend right now (real or imagined) we would be...
- answer: What do you do when you're feeling really alone?
For the class after spring break (April 7) please bring a song (either on cd or something that you can play in class -- there will be a keyboard, otherwise bring your own instrument) that you think fits with some aspect of the play. Please also bring a poem (either written by you or found) that does the same.
See you at 4 on Thurs!

So are you looking for any kind of song that we think has the same mood as the play?
marnie,
yes. or a song that you think expresses some aspect of the play or the characters or the world. this is general. it's supposed to be. bring in (or play) what you feel a connection to.
kyle,
yes, of course, write from rainboy's perspective. i'll enjoy reading that. but also please (if not this week, then next) do one of the prompts from your own perspective. i want you to have something that's, well, yours. and i'm also really interested in hearing your voice. i'm amazed by how much i hear all of your voices when i'm writing... i wonder if you can hear them in the scenes too... (and I'm not talking ideas here - although those are certainly there, i'm talking vocal patterns, and vocab, and ways of responding and provoking, etc...)
